PUNCHEDcanvas Theatre Company
was formed by director Emma Copland,
producer Mary-Ellen McCartan and writer
James Johnson in 2013. They set out to
produce new and challenging work that
stepped away from the political and
divisive tone of much of the work that is
produced in Belfast.
In October 2013 they staged a rehearsed reading of A DECENT WOMAN by James Johnson and directed by Emma Copland at the Ulster Hall with Maggie Cronin, Mary-Frances Loughran and Vincent Higgins. In the summer of 2014 they staged THE PUGILIST by James Johnson and directed by Emma Copland and produced by Mary-Ellen McCartan with Louise Parker and Shaun Blaney as part of The MAC's Pick 'n' Mix Festival.
After a short hiatus and members moving on to new challenges PUNCHEDcanvas return in 2016 with two new shows TURTLE & THE COMPLETE WORKS OF JANE AUSTEN. The company is now driven by James Johnson and Adele Smyth-Kennedy as Associate Producer beside her role in TURTLE and would love to hear from anyone wishing to be a part of PUNCHEDcanvas.
